The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies above proclaim His handiwork,

Day to day they pour out speech, night to night reveal knowledge,

There is no speech, nor are there words, in whose voice is not heard;

Their voice goes out through all the earth. and their words to the end of the world.

In them, He has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and like a strong man runs his course with joy

Its rising is from the end of the heavens and its circuits to the end of them; there is nothing hidden from its heat. (Psalms 19:1-6)

The sunrise. The sunset. The stars of the night sky, glimmering and glittering in their splendor. To this day, these sceneries are the subjects of many photographers and astronomers; the locations in which they are seen best are touted as greatly memorable especially for couples, be it for a romantic date or a life-changing proposal.

But how often do we think about the Creator behind these wonderful scenes?

The psalmist in Psalms 19 saw this Creator, and in response penned the opening words as such: the heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies above proclaim His handiwork. The reason why we see these magnificent settings is because there is a Creator that has created them and allowed us to enjoy them. Creation exists that man might know that behind all these things we treasure, there is a far greater Creator that intends for us to treasure Him.

The psalm goes on to point out that this magnificence is not hidden from anyone - there is no speech or language that does not give credit to the wonders of Creation. This is important because if Creation is hidden, then there is an excuse for us to tell God at the end of time "Why didn't I see you?" It isn't, and so we have no excuse to not at the very least, consider the possibility that there is a God out there.

The psalmist goes on to describe the movement of the heavenly bodies - most notably the Sun that passes over their heads - and likens it to the glory of God. Everyone has felt the heat of the sun before, even people that hate to go out (like me) will always need to risk their skins to the exposure of the great white ball of light in the sky. So it is with God's existence: none of us can hide from it.

When we take a step back from the verses to admire the scenery painted by the psalmist, we can empathize with the same psalmist that cried "When I look to the heavens, the work of the fingers; the moon and the stars that you have set in place - who is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?" Indeed, when we look at the glory of God displayed in the intricate delicateness and wonders of His creation, it should remind us that all that we are is dust, but God in His mercy cares for us.

So the next time you watch the sunrise, the sunset, or the starry skies - remember, the same God that created and governs them is also your God. Hallelujah!
